Product Information

APO-AZITHROMYCIN 250 MG is the trade name of a prescription drug containing Azithromycin as the active component. Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that is used to treat a variety of infections that affect the body, ranging from inner ear, sinus, throat, respiratory tract, pelvis, skin, as well as some sexually transmitted infections. Our APO-AZITHROMYCIN is manufactured by Apotex Corp and is available as an oral tablet in a blister pack of 6 tablets. The tablets are oval, white, biconvex film coated tablets, engraved “AZ250” on one side and “APO” on the other side. Azithromycin was first approved by the FDA in November 1, 1991.

How it works

Azithromycin is absorbed into your bloodstream when it reaches your stomach. The drug works by attacking different parts of the bacterial cells. This prevents the bacteria from multiplying and growing, and kills the existing bacteria already present at the site of infection. By stopping the growth of the bacteria, and killing the existing bacteria, the symptoms of the infection should go away if treatment is successful

Dosage information

Unlike other macrolides, Azithromycin has a distinct long half-life and this enables a once daily dosing of the antibiotic. Depending on the intention of the healthcare professional and type of infection, the adult dose varies from 250-500mg once daily dosing. (See table 1)
