What is Agrylin (Anagrelide)?

Agrylin is the trade name of a prescription drug containing anagrelide as the active component. Agrylin is used in the treatment of certain blood disorders (cancer) such as thrombocythemia, which develops as a result of bone marrow producing too many platelets. Anagrelide reduces the number of platelets, which, when left unchecked, can lead to problems such as poor circulation. In turn, this can lead to blood clots and possibly bleeding problems. It is manufactured by Shire Pharmaceuticals. It is available in a strength of 0.5mg in an opaque capsule.

Active ingredient

The active ingredient in Agrylin is called anagrelide. The actual mechanism by which Anagrelide works is unknown, but it is thought to work by blocking the production of platelets by the bone marrow; hence, reducing the number of platelets in the body.
